2025 UK Bank Holidays you need to know

There are eight bank holidays scheduled for 2025, with many Brits already making plans for how to spend them. Bank holiday dates shift each year, influenced by weekends or changing annual holidays.

There are no major national events or celebrations planned in 2025, so we won’t get any extra bank holidays this year. In 2023, people across the UK got the day off on May 8 as an extra bank holiday to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

The first bank holiday of 2025 is New Year’s Day on January 1, allowing people to welcome the New Year in their own time. The next two bank holidays fall either side of the Easter weekend, with Good Friday on April 18 and Easter Monday on April 21 – meaning some will get to enjoy a four-day weekend.

The early May bank holiday falls on the first Monday of May each year. This year, it falls on May 5 and is followed three weeks later by the spring bank holiday on May 26.

There is only one bank holiday between May and December. The summer bank holiday falls on August 25 this year.

To round off the year, Christmas Day and Boxing Day (December 25 and 26) are both bank holidays. This year, they fall on a Thursday and a Friday.
